Frequently Asked Questions
What is Connecting Kentuckiana?
Connecting Kentuckiana is the name of a major transportation plan update being created by the Kentuckiana Regional Planning and Development Agency (KIPDA). As the logo says, Connecting Kentuckiana encompasses five counties in one plan. The five counties are Bullitt, Jefferson and Oldham counties in Kentucky and Clark and Floyd counties in Indiana. The plan, looking forward through 2040, will address all areas of transportation: roads, bridges, bike and walking paths, and public transportation. The plan will focus on the best ways to connect people to places, people to people, and goods to market.
What is the KIPDA Louisville/Jefferson County KY-IN Metropolitan Planning Organization?
KIPDA is the Kentuckiana Regional Planning and Development Agency. We serve as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Louisville-Southern Indiana Metropolitan area and are responsible for developing a comprehensive transportation plan for the five-county region. The MPO is directed by the Transportation Policy Committee, whose members include elected officials as well as the Indiana Department of Transportation, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Transit Authority of River City (TARC).
What is KIPDA looking for?
KIPDA will be taking a fresh look at transportation throughout the region. By working with you and by analyzing available data, we will explore the transportation issues of today and attempt to anticipate what they may be in the future. We will explore every aspect of transportation, from the first to last mile of your trip as well as all the miles between. KIPDA is rethinking transportation and wants to transform our system so you are better connected to where you need and want to go.
Who can be involved?
Everyone. We want to know what concerns you have about transportation in our area. Whether your livelihood depends on transportation or you just wish there was an easier way to get to the grocery store, we would like to hear from you.
Why is the Metropolitan Transportation Plan so important?
Deciding how we want our region's transportation system to evolve over the long term is simply a good idea. By defining how we want our region to evolve, we are making our community better: better for us, our children and our grandchildren. We have the opportunity to contribute to how the area will look, to preserve and enhance our region's assets, and to attract new economic interests.
Will every comment be included?
Every comment will be considered. Looking at the transportation system and whether or not it meets your needs and wants is critical. Anticipating the future of this system is just as important. The more we hear from you, the better our plan will be.
How can you get involved? We will have a series of workshops in each of the counties where you can come in person to provide input. You may also add your comments to the community input section of the website or e-mail them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
